Failing SLC because of stress and depression
Reeta, a young mother, could not remember anything during her school exams and failed the SLC examination. She worried that she had a mental problem. Ankur’s counselor found she was overwhelmed by stress and depression, being a mother, wife, and student. Ankur helped Reeta recognize her emotions and manage her time. She learned to understand the love of her family, which improved their relationships. Her self-esteem increased and she passed SLC. Reeta said, "If I hadn’t heard about Ankur, my desire to study in college would not have come true."
Dizziness and vomiting cured by therapy
Sunita, a student in 9th grade, suffered from headaches, dizziness, and vomiting, and was performing poorly in school. Ankur’s counselor found that she was very afraid of the future and felt pressured to excel in school to "be somebody." Her fears had produced physical symptoms.
Through techniques including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Sand Tray Therapy, Ankur’s psychologist explored Sunita’s problem and reduced her fears. The counselor taught her relaxation techniques and had her study, eat, and sleep according to a set schedule. After six therapy sessions, Sunita passed the SLC examination and is now studying in college.
A teenager's suicidal thoughts caused by early childhood trauma
A Nepalese child with a psychologist doing sand play therapyRam's parents brought him to Ankur because he liked to spend a lot of time alone and talked about suicidal tendencies with his parents and friends. After establishing a good rapport with the teenage boy, Ankur’s therapist found that because of traumatic experiences in his early childhood, his self-esteem and sense of identity were in conflict. He could not feel any hope about his future.
The treatment plan encouraged Ram to focus on his personal strengths, as well as his uniqueness and importance. The counselor helped to reduce his stress through relaxation techniques, play therapies, and Sand Tray Therapy. After six counseling sessions, his confidence and self-esteem increased dramatically. Now that Ram is hopeful that he will continue to improve, he does not think about suicide.
The deeper cause of wanting to be alone
A seven-year-old girl named Nisha was referred to Ankur because she did not like to play with her friends. Through counseling sessions, Ankur’s psychologist learned that Nisha’s mother had died when she was young and her stepmother is extremely strict with her. As a result, she suffered from poor confidence, stress, and feelings of inferiority, which caused her to want to spend her time alone.
The counselor developed a treatment plan that included individual and group counseling sessions as well as play therapy. Now Nisha’s performance in school and her self-confidence are both improving, she enjoys playing with her friends, and she feels more comfortable expressing her emotions.
